In
Memoriam
-------------------------
{In fond and Affectionate Remembrance
of my darling mother,
who died 29th August, 1939}.
MY mother’s gone to heaven, she with the
angels now,
All robed in white apparel, a crown upon her brow;
God took her from us quietly, an angel’s place to
fill,
He plucked her from our garden at – Palmyra by the Hill.
Her earthly life is ended—her cares and worries o’er,
She’s happy with the angels, upon that golden shore;
In dreams I think I see her, her dear face haunts me
still,
As memory takes me homeward bound to --- Palmyra by the Hill.
Oh mother, you have left us, tale your place on high,
To mingle with the angels, in realms above the sky;
But, mother, darling mother, although your form is
still,
You’ll live in memory ever at – Palmyra by the Hill.
In yonder Ardnaree Churchyard, where she was laid to
rest,
That spot to me is hallowed ground, she was one of the
best;
But now her soul has soared on high—God took her ’twas
His will,
No more we’ll see her cheery smile – at Palmyra by the Hill.
My mother’s gone to Heaven, she happy there I know,
Because she was so kind and true, on this fair earth
below;
And God, in His great mercy, will care for mother
still,
As He has done through all the years – at Palmyra by the Hill.
My mother is in Heaven, she’s with that happy band,
She takes her place with the elect, in that far-off
Better land;
And when my course is ended here, I hope if ’tis God’s
will,
To meet in Heaven my mother, from – Palmyra by the Hill.
Tom
E. Armstrong,
September, 28th, 1939.
