The Moy’s Lovely Shore

TO the Moy’s lovely shore, farewell,
Where often I did roam,
And watched the ships from foreign lands
Come gliding o’er the foam;
The birds nearby that lovely shore
Their sweetest notes did pour,
Which echoed through those lovely groves
Along Moy’s lovely shore.
Along those banks I’ve often sat
And watched the flowing tide,
And the splendid craft of every size
As an anchor they did ride.
The seagull’s dismal cry doth pierce,
And echoes o’er and o’er
Through the wooded cliffs that do abound
By the dear Moy’s lovely shore.
Belleek’s fine castle on the hill
Doth still appear in view,
As clear and beautiful as when
I bade my last adieu.
Those happy days are gone, alas!
I’ll never see them more,
Yet recollection brings me back
To the Moy’s lovely shore.
The boys with whom my youth was spent
In the court and on the green,
Their smiling faces I behold,
Though seas roll wide between.
Those pleasant hours I still retain,
Though sadly I deplore,
When my thoughts go back to happy days
Spent by Moy’s lovely shore.
To those dear scenes once more I bid
A lasting fond farewell,
May the Heaven’s shine bright on all
Who on those banks may dwell.
And happiness for ever reign
’Til time becomes no more,
Where first I drew the breath of life
Near the Moy’s lovely shore.
